This shows amazing insight. So much of what we struggle with - perfectionism, the need for acceptance, the need to control our circumstances - is really based in fear. I think until we understand that truth, it is difficult to face it because we frame it as something good (perfectionism - high standards; control - I take charge of my life; acceptance - I value relationship. The only way to defeat fear is to face it head on. I always start by asking myself what is underneath the problem? What am I afraid of? When I can address it as fear I tend to handle it differently. I find it especially helpful when you have the God of the universe by your side and you can remember that. There is nothing he hasn't already overcome. John 16:33

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

When we handle things with the understanding that God is firmly in control of the bigger picture, the end result should be peace. I use that as my standard for how right I am getting it.
